Further Details

The Help Book offers a structured way of looking at short pieces of literature (and, incidentally, long ones). It outlines some principal characteristics of
Setting
Character
Action
Style
Ideas
It shows how all five can work together in a poem, novel or play
It explains how writers use them to do whatever it is they are trying to do
It gives some clear guidelines for writing about writing
It does all of that by taking apart a wide variety of interesting poems and prose passages - and putting them together again
It doesn't theorise (much); but it does ask many questions, and it gives many answers

Writing Unseen Commentaries is now available both as a Teaching Copy and in a Student Edition. The only difference between the two is that the Teaching Copy has suggested responses to the study tasks built into the text, whereas the Student Edition carries them in a separate Answers Booklet at the end.
